ViaRhôna, the bike ride along the Rhône

Spring has arrived! Explore the blue skies of new horizons as you breathe in the fresh air on your bike, wind in your hair, discovering the legendary ViaRhôna!

The ViaRhôna cycle route stretches from Lake Geneva to the beaches of the Mediterranean.

Most of the 815-km route follows the Rhône River, offering cyclists diverse and exceptional landscapes along the way.

It crosses 12 departments and 3 regions: Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Sud, and Occitanie.

With panoramic views of the Alps, cyclists explore the riverbanks, vineyards, hilltop villages, lavender fields, and Provençal olive trees, on a route discovering the very essence of France.

There are two types of lanes along the itinerary:

- secured greenways restricted to cyclists and other non-motorized users,
- cycle routes on secondary roads shared with motorists, mostly with little traffic.

Mostly flat:
Except for the first 80 km from Geneva to Seyssel, the route along the Rhône River is an easy ride

The different atmospheres are what makes this route so rich.

The 300-km stretch from Lake Geneva to Lyon boasts magnificent landscapes and panoramas of the Alps, gorges, and lakes. The route is dotted with spa towns like Thonon-les-Bains and Evian-les-Bains, castles, authentic villages like the former fishing town of Yvoire, one of the "most beautiful villages in France", and ends in Lyon, a gourmet capital that lends itself to a discovery by bike. In addition to its Michelin-starred restaurants and traditional bouchons, Lyon features rich historic heritage recognised by UNESCO.

Optional routes: - Take the V62 in Seyssel to Lake Annecy. - Discover Lake Bourget by taking the V63.

From Vienne to Valence

A different section, with different landscapes and discoveries: From Vienne to Valence, immerse yourself in the ancient city and discover its theatre, the temple of Auguste and Livie, and the archaeological museum of Saint-Romain-en-Gal. Then, ride through the famous vineyards of Côtes du Rhône, Condrieu, Côte-Rôtie, and Saint-Joseph here in the heart of the exceptional wines of the Rhône Valley!

The famous ValRhôna Cité du Chocolat in Tain-l'Hermitage is a not-to-be-missed stop.

After the vineyards, the landscapes give way to the orchards of the Rhône Valley before arriving in Valence, a Town of Art and History and the gateway to the south, with its colourful markets, gardens, and welcoming pedestrian streets.
